The executive director of the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, Sarah Howard (or ‘Howie’ as you may know her) was honored last month by the American Red Cross of Alaska, receiving a Real Heroes Award for Medical Rescue.

Howie jumped into action last summer here onsite and saved a guest’s life using her years of medical training and her quick thinking. We are so proud to have her leading our great crew here at AWCC. The next time you see Howie, be sure to congratulate her!

“Sarah Howard has made it a priority to ensure the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center has the equipment and staff training needed in case of an emergency. When an actual emergency occurred during peak tourist season last year after a guest suffered a medical emergency, Sarah’s commitment to safety and training as a volunteer firefighter helped saved a life. Sarah’s commitment to safety and helping others is commendable.” – Red Cross of Alaska
