Free to all visitors, our educational programs are a fun and in-depth way for visitors to learn about our resident animals.
Programs happen daily and are hosted by AWCC Naturalist’s outside of the designated animal’s habitat. Upon your arrival, check the sign posted at the top of the ramp on the parking lot side of the Be Wild Gift Shop for specific times and locations.

Naturalist’s Selection 11:30AM – 12:30PM
AWCC Naturalists select one of our various animal species to discuss. Check the signage at the top of the ramp to the Be Wild Gift Store upon arrival.

Summer 2024 Schedule

Free Daily Educational Programs: June 2 –  September 15.

Information Station 9:30AM – 12:30PM
Question & answer time! Learn about AWCC’s mission, conservation, and research projects. 
Location: in front of the Be Wild Gift Shop, near the main parking lot

Moose, Muskox, and More
12:00PM – 2:00PM
Learn about Alaskan animals with horns and antlers and feel some of their unique headgear for yourself. Join the Naturalist leading this program at any point during this time frame.
Location: In front of the Bunkhouse, in between the moose and muskox habitats.

Naturalist Chat 1:30PM
Join a Naturalist to hear about the care of one of the species living at AWCC and what makes them unique. This talk will last about 15 minutes.
Topics will rotate between: North American porcupine feeding demonstration and adaptations or social structure; Kobuk the black bear enrichment demonstration and human bear interactions and safety; Other neighboring species.
Location: Posted daily at the Be Wild Gift Shop. This daily talk will be given at one of the habitats behind the Be Wild Gift Shop.

Wandering with Wood Bison 2:30PM – 4:30PM
Learn about the wood bison reintroduction program in Alaska and explore biofacts. Join the Naturalist leading this program at any point during this time frame.
Location: Find the Naturalist with a wagon walking the perimeter of the Wood Bison Habitat following the herd near The Point.

Bear Talk 3:30PM
Hear from a Naturalist about the Bears of AWCC and Alaska during this 15 minute talk. Following the talk, explore biofacts and test your knowledge with a Naturalist.
