AWCC’s resident North American Porcupines, Twix, Baby Ruth, and Heath, enjoying a delicious fireweed snack.
Porcupines are herbivores, and feed on the newly emerging leaves of aspen, birch, willow, and cottonwood in the spring. Fireweed, willow, roots, berries, and herbaceous plants make up the diet in summer and fall. Winter diet consists primarily of the inner bark of spruce trees or other conifers.
