Join us for Annual Summer Hummingbird Days at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, in partnership with U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service!

This family-friendly event celebrates Alaska’s tiniest travelers with a full day of activities. Banding demos, activities and talks will be occurring in and around Bison Hall from 9:00am-2:00pm

9:00-10:00am Hummingbird Banding Demos
As birds visit the feeder at the Bison Hall patio.
Banding demos will continue in between scheduled talks until 1:00 pm.

10:00-2:00pm Hummingbird and Pollinator Activities
Learn new information about hummingbirds and pollinators while doing fun science-based family friendly activities.

10:00am Hummingbirds 101
Learn about what makes up a natural hummingbird diet, the best practices for setting feeders at home, and how they use their flashy color to communicate.

11:00am Ultra Marathons – The Physiology Behind Migration
If you’re an exercise enthusiast, marathon runner, or peak bagger, you might just envy a hummingbird! Join us as we take a deep dive into the physical changes hummingbirds undergo before, during, and after migration. We will cover everything from clothing, meal plans, rest stops, to recovery at the cellular and whole-body levels. Sound complicated? It is! However, this talk is for everyone, kids and adults, so come get nerdy with us and learn what powers these tiny super athletes.

12:00pm Celebrate Project HumTrack!
Putting backpacks on hummingbirds? You bet! Learn about the first-ever Rufous hummingbird migration tracking research conducted in Alaska. Celebrate the launch of Project HumTrack, and the amazing sponsors who are making it happen!
