Lily Grbavach, Director of Education at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, recently teamed up with Alaska News Source to teach viewers how to stay safe on the trails! Most Alaskans know what to do when they encounter a bear or a moose — but what if you come across a lynx, or even a muskox?
Tune in HERE to learn how to keep yourself — and the wildlife — safe while still enjoying Alaska’s great outdoors.
- If you run into a lynx on the trails, stay calm and don’t run! Give the lynx plenty of space. If they start acting aggressively, make yourself big and make lots of noise.
- If you see a bison in the wild, do not approach it! Give it plenty of space and back away slowly to observe from afar.
- If you see a porcupine in the wild, do not disturb it. They are generally not aggressive, but they can become defensive when provoked. Keep a safe distance.
