You all know how much we love our Cook Inlet Beluga Whales — and we’re so excited to share that love (and the chance to make a real difference!) with all of you.

The Alaska Beluga Monitoring Program (AKBMP) has officially announced their Spring 2026 beluga monitoring season, along with details for their new volunteer orientation. If you’ve ever wanted to get involved in beluga conservation, this is the perfect opportunity!

Volunteer Orientation will take place virtually on Wednesday, March 18th, from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM AKST.

Can’t make it that evening? No problem at all — the orientation will also be recorded and available to watch later, so you can complete it at a time that works best for your schedule.

Important note: All volunteers must complete the orientation in order to participate, so if you’re interested, be sure to register through the AKBMP website.

The Spring 2026 monitoring season will run from mid-March through May 31st, although specific site start dates may vary depending on ice coverage and weather conditions.

By volunteering, you’ll be joining a dedicated community of people working together to help protect one of Alaska’s most iconic and endangered marine mammals. Your time and attention can make a real impact in supporting beluga research, monitoring efforts, and long-term conservation.

Join us in protecting Cook Inlet Belugas — and be part of something meaningful this spring!
